Red, White & Royal Blue
This book was a freakin’ delight to read. I’ve written elsewhere on this blog about getting over my dislike of romance (which my guess was due to internalized misogyny of some sort) — and I am so glad I got over it, because we are living in a TIME of wonderful, diverse, and deeply enjoyable romance. (Jasmine Guillory! Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan! Alyssa Cole!)
Red, White & Royal Blue is so much fun. The premise: What happens when America's First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales? Essentially, imagine that the 2016 election didn’t happen. That we have a female president — who is a mom of two twenty-somethings that the press is obsessed with. Now imagine that Prince Harry wasn’t Prince Harry, but a young, (closeted) gay teen trying to figure out his role. And imagine that the son of the President and the dashing prince end up in a cross-continent secret romance. But, you don’t have to imagine any of this: Casey McQuiston has written a loving, romantic, fun, and absorbing story about two famous millennials just trying to figure it all out. I won’t spoil anything, but know you’ll put it down very satisfied.
“Come one, come all into the queer, political/royal crossover episode of my dreams—the water is perfect,” writes Vogue. Truly perfect.
